This is my absolute favorite Red Wine Sangria recipe! Why, you ask? Well, for one, the only alcohol the recipe calls for is…wait for it…WINE! I love that because I never keep any other alcohol in the house and I generally always have all the other ingredients available (except the Gingerale but I just grab that while I’m already out grocery shopping) …so I don’t want to have to go to the liquor store just for another type of liquor we will never even finish. Another reason is because it’s bubbly, refreshing, pairs well with my favorite day of the week…Taco Tuesday, duh…and everyone I’ve shared it with loves it! It’s packed full of fresh fruit and is the perfect drink for Labor Day weekend…or any other summer holiday for that matter! What better way to celebrate than a nice chilled glass of sangria on a hot summer day, hangin’ outside with friends and family, BBQing?! I couldn’t think of anything better either.
So the recipe calls for one bottle of red wine…I get 4 bottles of wine delivered to my door once a month through my wine club that consists of 2 bottles of reds and 2 bottles of whites! So today, I’m using a 2012 Merlot called ‘Eye of the Needle’ from Pacific Wine Enterprises in Woodinville, Washington.
The wine club I get my shipment from sends tasting notes for each bottle I receive and I love that because I get to expand my wine knowledge and am able to pair my wines with the appropriate foods! This wine is elegantly balanced with aromas of cherries, berries, and plums with subtle undertones of oak. The notes state that this wine pairs well with many foods, such as, pot roasts, stew, and smoked cheeses. My wine delivery is pretty much my favorite day of the month and I am always excited to open up my box and see what and where my wines came from! If you’re interested in receiving a monthly win shipment as well, the prices are decent and the company has contracts with a couple hundred wineries around the world! You get premium wines from all over the world that you generally won’t find in stores which is another reason I really love my subscription! You can order your monthly subscription of either 2 or 4 bottles here! If you’re interested in earning an income through this fun wine club, Apply here.
Here is what you’ll need to make this Sangria:
1 bottle red wine of your choice
3 cups Ginerale
Juice from 1 orange
1 additional orange
1 can pineapple chunks and juice
Slice 1 orange, 1 lime, and 1 lemon, as pictured above. Cut the other orange in half. Open the can of pineapple chunks and pour into pitcher, including the juice. Measure out 3 cups of Gingerale and add that into the pitcher next. Then squeeze the 2 orange halves into the pitcher as well. Next, add all but a few slices (for garnishing the wine glasses) of the fruit. Pour the entire bottle of red wine into the pitcher and stir. Refrigerate for 3 hours prior to serving. Garnish each glass you serve with a slice of fruit and enjoy chilled. I always add some of the fruit slices right into my wine glass!
I hope you enjoy this Sangria as much as my fiance and I do!
